My garden has been enjoying the fact that it has rained almost every single day for the last few weeks. My squash plant divided into three or four and has blessed us with lovely yellow yumminess. But you know why we have that yumminess? Because of the cute little bee in the picture.
When I go out to pick in the mornings (because, seriously, y’all, the humidity and heat in the afternoons can melt a girl!), it thrills me a bit to see those little black behinds wiggling in the flowers as the bee works on the pollen. Isn’t God amazing in how He created our world?
The bees are buzzing in my squash, cucumber, okra, tomato, green bean, and pumpkin flowers. And I can’t be happier. Because those little creatures that may be dangerous to step on are wonderful in the garden!
So many times in life, we think we can only make a difference if we do something big. If our name is well-known. If we have X number of followers. But can you think of a time you made a big impact from something small? Something you would normally do anyway? Something you probably didn’t think was all that special?
If the bees didn’t need the pollen for their food, they wouldn’t help make our food (and yes, I include honey in that). But they’re not thinking about the fact that their legs are pollinating the flowers so they can create squash. They’re simply doing what they were created to do.
I need this reminder. It’s so easy to get caught up in thinking myself less-than simply because I’m not like someone else. But that doesn’t mean what I am doing isn’t creating fruit in someone else’s life. God can use us, big or small. We need to remember that.
What’s making you happy right now? And what reminders has God put in your life so you can remember that even the little acts matter?
