If you’re like me, it takes you back to being a kid and participating in the Pizza Hut BookIt! program. Of course, when I was a child, we logged our reading at school, gained a certificate, and then went to the restaurant and ate our pizzas under the old glass lights with the red cups full of soda. It was worth every page read and more.
A few years ago, Pizza Hut brought the program back, but slightly different.
My kids are able to participate during the months of June, July, and August. I downloaded the app, and log their reading each day. After they log so many days, they get a code to cash in for their own personal pizza. This is one of my kids’ favorite reading programs each year. And it raises the nostalgia in my heart.
We also join the summer reading program at the library. And sometimes do the Barnes and Noble one, or another.
It’s not because my children need a reason to read. Trust me. We’re raising them as avid readers and can barely keep them supplied with books to make it through the week to the next library visit.
But isn’t it fun to get a prize for something you want to do anyway?
